I am the author of a time zone plugin for Adium, the popular Mac OS X IM client. This plugin adds time zone functionality to Adium by letting you specify a time zone for each contact. You will then be able to see their local time in the their tooltip when you hover over them. It’s current version is 1.1.

FAQ

Will you add X city?
Maybe. If the city is generally well known I’ll probably add it to the next release, but I can’t add every little city in the world, it would really slow down the time it takes to find the city you are looking for if you have to scroll through a million little cities.

The formatting is messed up and doesn’t respect my format settings! This isn’t a question, I just like to yell!
Yeah, sorry about that. That was a bug and is fixed in version 1.1.

Why isn’t this in Adium itself?
Evan (the Lead Adium developer) and myself agreed a long time ago when I first wrote a patch to add this feature to Adium that it is not necessary for most users and is much better to be implemented as a plugin. Adium has a great plugin architecture, and the Adium core itself does not and should not need to be loaded down with extra unnecessary features.
